Your mission – why this role matters
The role of a System Safety Manager (m/f/d) goes far beyond compliance with standards. You will become the central figure in projects where safety is not only measured by checklists, but by the trust of end users, customers, and operators. Every decision you take influences the reliability of highly complex systems – from military vehicles to industrial assemblies and innovative components.
Core responsibilities in detail
- Management of safety-related functions: You oversee and realize safety functions at the system, assembly, and component level. This includes coordinating cross-functional teams, aligning engineering tasks, and ensuring that every safety aspect is fully integrated into the product lifecycle.
- Application of international standards: You apply and analyze safety according to recognized frameworks such as MIL-STD-882E, ISO 26262, or IEC 61508. Your knowledge of these standards will serve as the backbone for risk analysis and safety case preparation.
- Safety requirement engineering: Based on system architectures, you derive concrete safety requirements, allocate them to the right stakeholders, and ensure traceability throughout the entire project lifecycle.
- Moderation of workshops: You act as the moderator of interdisciplinary workshops where mechanical engineers, electrical engineers, software specialists, and quality managers come together. Your ability to translate complex safety issues into clear action items is crucial.
- Cross-disciplinary collaboration: You work hand-in-hand with departments ranging from R&D, testing, and validation to production, purchasing, and supplier management.
- Documentation & communication: You document your results, prepare safety reports, and present them to internal decision-makers as well as to external customers and authorities.
This position is designed to be filled by two people – which means you will be part of a dual leadership setup, sharing responsibilities, exchanging expertise, and ensuring maximum robustness in project execution.
What you bring to the table
To succeed as a System Safety Manager (m/f/d) in Kassel, you need both technical depth and the ability to think holistically across systems and stakeholders.
- Degree in engineering or science: Preferably electrical engineering, mechatronics, physics, chemistry, computer science, or another analytical discipline.
- Professional experience: You have worked as a functional safety engineer, system safety manager, or in a related role in industries such as automotive, defense, aerospace, or industrial automation.
- V-Model expertise: You understand the V-model development approach and know how to apply it in practice, from requirement specification to validation and verification.
- Tool proficiency: Ideally, you bring experience with DOORS, PDM, ALM, or similar safety and development tools.
- Team skills: You are experienced in moderating groups, aligning conflicting interests, and guiding technical discussions towards solutions.
- Language: Good written and spoken English is mandatory; German language skills are a strong advantage, especially for interacting with local teams in Kassel.
- Soft skills: Analytical mindset, strong problem-solving, communication strength, resilience, and a hands-on mentality.
- Mobility: You are open to occasional travel, e.g., for workshops, audits, or customer meetings.
